What to do with a Half a Lamb in Your Freezer

Read on to find out how a half a lamb may be perfectly suited for you and your family.

Let's assume you bought a Half Lamb, and it arrives on your doorstep ready for your freezer.

Half a lamb sounds like a crazy amount of meat to stuff in your freezer and have hanging around the house, right?

It’s actually not though.

Let’s break it down and see how you can easily store it and put it to good use this summer.

I’ll give you some great ideas for keeping your mealtimes interesting, delicious, and healthy.

A half a lamb is approximately 14 to 18 pounds of meat.

That might sound overwhelming, but it will only take up about 1½ cubic feet in your freezer.

So, if all you have is a small freezer of 3 cubic feet only half of it will be used for storing your Half Lamb.

Easy peasy.

Now let’s jump into how to use the various assortment of cuts in your Half Lamb Box.

We’ll start with the styles of cuts you’ll get and how to cook them:

20% of the packages you get are ground or stew meat.

That comes out to around 4 or 5 pounds of lamb that you can easily cook up into all sorts of scrumptious meals popping with flavor and nutrients.

For instance, Lamb Tacos, Lamb and Cabbage Roll Casserole, Shepherd's Pie, Lamb Meatballs, Grilled Lamb Kebabs with Fresh Veggies, Irish Stew, and much more.

60% of the cuts included will be cuts perfect for slow cooking like roasting or smoking.

I love a good Oven Roasted Lamb Leg Roast with Root Vegetables, it’s simple and yet so flavorful, and you just know you’re getting a dose of delicious, natural nourishment for your body from the meat and veggies.

There’s so many different seasonings and flavors to experiment with when it comes to lamb roasts: Moroccan Spiced Lamb Roast, Greek-Style Lamb Roast with Potatoes, and Maple Glazed Lamb Roast with Apple and Onions to name a few.

Don’t get overwhelmed by the choices, just choose one that sounds like flavors you’d like and roll with it.

Roasts are so handy cause you literally do all the prep hours ahead then cook it low and slow till you’re ready to eat.

It's so nice if you want to get dinner on the table without a lot of work.

Also, lamb roasts, whether you smoke them or oven-roast them, will typically leave you with enough extra meat you can eat in the next couple of days as yummy leftovers.

Transform the meat from a picked roast into a different dish, like shredded lamb tacos or make it into a delicious stew.

Then last but not least 10% to 20% of your bundle are cuts perfect for the grill or stovetop.

Lamb Loin Chops are flavorful and succulent cuts of meat.

Each one's just a few ounces, perfect if you're not big on huge meat servings but still want a good protein fix with your favorite homemade sides.

I like them because they’re so easy to throw on the stove top in a cast-iron skillet with some butter, salt, and pepper.

That’s if you’re not feeling super creative and just wanting to keep it simple.

You of course can spice them up however you want.

But you could start with Rosemary and Garlic, or an Herb-Crusted spice blend and see if that suits your fancy.

Simple but tasty.

On a different note...

Did you know that if you buy one of our Half Lamb Deposits, you've officially become a "Nose-to-Tail" hero?

That's right.

You maybe didn't even realize it but it's that simple—

Instead of always buying just one type of cut that takes hundreds of sheep to supply the demand for them...

You're honoring the whole animal by eating the different cuts from the nose to the tail.

Well... maybe not literally nose to tail, but you get the idea.

You're utilizing the whole animal rather than just a few of the popular cuts.

Pretty cool, right?

See how simple a Half Lamb will break down into satisfying meals?

It will fill your family’s bellies and bodies with food that is clean, wholesome and healthy.

No more stress, you’ll have all the cuts in your freezer at your fingertips when the inspiration strikes to eat grassfed lamb.

And by the way, you also don't have to worry about your grassfed lamb you buy from us getting gross in the freezer if you don't eat it right away.

All of our cuts are carefully placed in vacuum sealed packaging and then frozen— keeping the meat as fresh as the day it was butchered.

It will stay safe and keep the same delicious flavor for years, as long as your freezer stays below freezing, obviously.
