1 Big Mistake I Keep Making When I Cook Lamb That Results in a Gross Meal and What I Will Do Different from Now On
I've had it happen to me several times.
I get excited about cooking up some lamb, only to be really disappointed by the results.
Because it's super annoying when you take that first bite of your long-awaited "roasted-to-perfection" lamb, expecting delicious flavors, but then almost gagging as your tastebuds yell at you to spit it out.
So, here's the 1 mistake I keep making:
I expect exotic recipes to produce comfort-food-level flavors with only mediocre seasonings.
There are 3 times where I vividly remember expecting that the recipe I was following would result in amazing flavors.
One of these times in particular, I expected the recipe I followed to bring back memories of the delicious curry we used to enjoy at that one Indian restaurant in the dusty city of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
But upon my first taste-testing bite I was sorely disappointed.
The flavor and texture were so far off, it was awful.
And of all things, that was the evening I had had a couple friends over to enjoy the meal with me.
I was so embarrassed and kept apologizing at my flop (luckily, they didn't have as high of expectations as I did and said it wasn't all that bad).
So, what will I do different from now on?
Well, I'll simply stop expecting mediocre seasonings to produce comfort-food flavors, especially if it takes more complicated cooking methods and seasonings from a different country to make it taste right.
And another part of my problem, is to simplify a recipe down to its bare bones, throw it into a pot, let it roast for several hours, and then expect perfect flavors.
But from my experience, these methods combined do NOT work for making tasty lamb meat meals.
So, the one thing I would recommend is this:
When you're looking for a delicious lamb meat meal, stick to the tried-and-true recipes that call for ingredients from your garden, pantry or local farmers' market.
Ones like Irish Stew or simple Slow Roasted Lamb with Veggies.
For me, those are the ones that have made my tastebuds the happiest.
So, what are your favorite tried-and-true lamb meat recipes?
